space race cold war incident

During the cold war America and the Soviet Union ended up in a space race. The Soviet Union launched a satellite called sputnik. This satellite made the U.S seem inferior technologically to Russia. The U.S. responded quickly by launching ther satellite called Explorer 1 in 1958 a year after Sputnik"s launch. The world quickly found out that everything between the U.S and Soviet Union would be a competition to found out who was the better nation.
