america or soviet union

The Soviet Union and America in the cold war both had faults but to me America made better decisions. It seemed as if in the cold war America was more of trying to resolve problems instead of being so quick to war. For instance the Cuban Missle Crisis were the U.S. made a deal instead of invading Cuba and battling the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union didnt really try and resolve problems or fight but it seemed as if they were just ready for whatever happened. I think America was interested in the well being of there country and felt as if we were'nt redy for war since we had just gotten out of one. The Cold War could have ended much worse if america didn't hold fire on some missles and bombs.

During the cold war another war was going on right at home. African Americans were fighting for equality. Segregation was a ugly part of American history African American leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. , Malcom X, Rosa Parks and Mary McLeod Bethune. All fought for their rights and there children. The powerful thing about these leaders is most of them were nonviolent in there approach for civil rights. The most popular in this approach is clearly Martin Luther King Jr. No matter how hard it got for him and even when his family was attacked he never responded with violent actions. He went on later to be the first African American to win the nobel peace prize. Martin Luther King Jr. Is even honored with his own holiday in america and cherished greatly and deeply missed.

H-bomb tension from cold war

During the cold war the H-bomb was a topic not to be talked about and sort of secret called the Manhattan project. President Harry S. Truman announced that work on the hydrogen bomb was to be continued in 1950. The Soviet Union was on defense and paranoid wondering if America was planning to fire that bomb towards Russian territory. Although all americans were'nt for the bombs development such as J. Robert Oppenheimer. They felt as it was danger to humanity as a whole. This was a big part of the cold war on who would pull the trigger first on the bomb. The Soviet Union had to be more paranoid because America had a history of firing bombs such as Hiroshima. The H-Bomb forced russian and American leaders to make tough decisions.

u2 tension

The u2 incident was a tension from the cold war because Francis Gary Powers flew over the soviet union and took photographs of denied territory. This added to tension because the Soviet Union clearly didnt want American planes flying over there territory. The soviet union responded to the American planes by firing at them and shooting them down. President Eisenhower was worried after hearing the news of the American plane being shot down that Russia might launch a suprise nuclear attack. The u2 incident had a big impact on the cold war and kept American military leaders on edge.
